100 Deadliest Days: What You Didn’t Know

by: Jess Goodwin

Maybe you’ve already read statistics on the 100 deadliest days of summer, but there’s more that you need to know! And more importantly, more that you can do to protect yourself!

Statistics for the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer

The statistics are alarming and tragic for the time-frame of Memorial Day to Labor Day. This period is historically known as the ‘100 deadliest days’ of driving for teens. This year, AAA reports that the number of teen drivers involved in fatal collisions is up 10% overall. And specifically in the summer months is increased by 26% compared to other months of the year.

This increase in risk can be attributed to extra travel time, extra passengers, and extra distractions. Speeding is also a factor in nearly 30% of collisions, and 60% of the teen drivers in said fatal collisions were not wearing a safety belt.

WeSaveLives.org is a great resource for teens who want to help battle the ‘100 Deadliest Days’ statistics.

Think of it – all the new drivers on road trips to the beach with the gang (and the social media feeds to show it)! Ahhh, summer freedom!!!  And then – think of all the families whose happy summers could inadvertently be ruined by inattention to the road.

  • – Teens have the highest crash rate of any age group
  • – An average 260 teens are killed in car crashes each month during the summer.
  • – 60% of teen crashes today are caused by distracted driving.
  • – See more on the TextNinja statistics page or from WeSaveLives.org.
